Already have a site or address?

Domain (web address) name registration and web hosting are different things. You need both to have a proper website. Domain name registration means that you, and only you, owns a particular web address. But this is just the address, not the site itself. Web Hosting is concerned with storing and presenting the content of your website on the Internet so that people can see it when they type in the address or link to it. Web hosting also handles things like e-mail.

If you have already registered a domain name with another company, you can choose to transfer the domain registration to helpfulwebhosting or you can leave it where it is. Either way, you’ll have to go into your account at the other company to find out or change some information.

If you want to transfer your domain name registration to helpfulwebhosting you will almost certainly need to get a special code from the other company before you sign up with helpfulwebhosting. The special code is usually referred to as an EPP Code, transfer secret, authorisation key, authentication code or something like that. The idea behind it is that only you will be able to get it from your current registrar, so no-one else can get hold of a domain name that does not really belong to them. You can usually find it when you look at the details section of your domain information at the other company.

If you want to leave your domain name registration where it is, you will still have a little work to do. In this case you will need to log into your account at the other company to update some settings that are called DNS records. DNS records set where the files that relate to a website are stored so that when someone types in your web address or links to it, the correct information is displayed. Usually you have to provide two. Ours are ns1.helpfulwebhosting.com and ns2.helpfulwebhosting.com.

Whichever option you choose, it can take anything between a few hours to a couple of days for all the appropriate records to be updated on the Internet
